You need to be acutely aware of your sin. You need to not deny the fact that you have broken God’s law. You also need to remember that as a result of this sin, you deserve the eternal wrath of God; you deserve hell. And yet, what you also need to see, or rather who you also need to see, is the Lord Jesus Christ. Come and meet him. Come and know that He loves you and asks you to come to him. He will take all of your sin upon himself. In fact, if you trust in him, he will have done that for you when he died on the cross. It will be done and dusted; you leave your sins behind as you come to him. We call it repentance, and you completely and utterly trust him, follow him, do everything he says. Then, as a result, the promises about the Lord Jesus Christ will be true of you: “Whoever comes to him will never be turned away.” (John 6:37) And you will know rest as you come to him—rest from your shame, rest from your guilt, rest from your conscience, rest from the devil. Rest, satisfaction, and peace with God. (Matthew 11:28).
