We need to confess our sins before the Lord, we need to say sorry for our wickedness, for our evil, for our greed, for our depravity, we need to say sorry for every time we’ve envied, every time we’ve murdered someone in our hearts by hating them, through strife and deceit, and we need to say sorry for every time we’ve gossiped about someone, for every time we have said something about someone that we haven’t been able to substantiate (slander), we need to say sorry for having other gods before the true God, we need to say sorry for our arrogance and for our insolence and for our boastfulness, we need to say sorry for the new ways we come up with of doing evil.
And then—if you’re an adult—you need to say sorry as you look back on your childhood and the times that you disobeyed your parents. And if you’re a child, you’re in it right now and you should know how disobedient you are; say sorry, confess it. Say sorry for your lack of understanding, for your lack of fidelity, for your lack of love, for your lack of mercy; you know the truth, you know what God requires, creation preached it to you, and you may even have heard it in church and yet, you still do it, I still do it, I still commit these sins, I continue to do them, and I approve of those who practice them. Shame on me, shame on you.
But if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to purify us from all unrighteousness, because of Christ’s blood. Trust in Jesus. Repent of your sins. Jesus promises to receive you (John 6:37).
