Sometimes Acts 16:15 is used as a proof text for infant baptism, but I hope you can see that that’s not what’s happening here. It seems, that Lydia was unmarried, so this is not referring to children being baptised, but rather to servants. It seems that Lydia very quickly shared the gospel with those in her household—presumably workers in the dealing of purple cloth, so these are adults we’re talking about who have been baptised…
And I don’t know of any paedobaptists—and if you have heard of them, please tell me—who, for example, when a husband is converted, immediately baptise his wife because she is also in his household; or, if there is an au pair who lives with them, who looks after the children, they also baptise the au pair. That would be consistent, at least, with the understanding that this is what was happening here…
But that is not what paedobaptists tend to do. And even if they did, they would be wrong, because such an emphasis is put in the middle of verse 15 on being a believer in the Lord.
So, do remember that, if you hear our brothers and sisters—we love those who are paedobaptists, we love those who baptise babies and are evangelical Christians, we read their books, we listen to their sermons, we’ve had them even preaching at Alfred Place—but they are wrong, and it’s important that we state that.
