It is so easy to get distracted in church life. It’s so easy to make it about something else other than the Lord Jesus. Whatever it might be that distracts us from this, it’s got to be put to death; it’s got to be gotten rid of. This is all we do: we proclaim the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ. We speak of Christ. We speak of what he’s come to do. We speak of God’s plan to bring people to himself. We speak of the crucifixion. We speak of the resurrection. We speak of the reign of Christ. We speak of God’s love for the whole world. We speak of the fact that anyone who believes in him will not go to hell but will have eternal life…
But there’s more, we speak not only of a fire insurance policy, but of today, living every day as an adventure with this Lord Jesus Christ. It affects us today. It means that we can become normal human beings, learning from the only person who’s ever been a normal human being, Jesus Christ. That’s the gospel, the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ. That’s what Paul is talking about, and that’s what we’re all about too.
