We might expect reward-seeking to be inherently selfish, but Jesus says it’s not selfish (verses 1, 4, 6, 18). For example, it’s not wrong to give to the needy for reward from God, nor is it wrong to pray for reward from God. But who are you wanting that reward from? Are you living for those who are seen, or are you living for him who is unseen, your Father in heaven? If your focus is truly on the unseen Father, then you will be willing to live for him in an unseen way.
