Other Notes
- There will be two Covenant Special Prayer-Meetings, one on Monday the 6th, and the other on Thursday the 9th (we have previously held three, but the Tuesday will be the previously scheduled small-groups meeting). These are two important prayer-meetings for the members to discuss and prepare our hearts for the Covenant-Renewal Service on Lord’s Day the 12th.
- The AP Church-Covenant is as follows:
“We recognise that when each of us joined Alfred Place, we made a serious commitment. We acknowledged on that day that the church is not just a building or an organisation, but a special and unique community of people in relationship with God and with each other. Therefore, today—as members of Alfred Place—we recommit to:
- The doctrines of the Christian faith taught in this church. (Summarised in the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith.)
- Sincerely believing that we are chosen and beloved of God from eternity; that Christ died for our sins; and that the Holy Spirit resides within us.
- Trusting God’s promises of peace and love; of his presence; his salvation; his grace and power; and his protection.
- Loving and caring for; encouraging; and praying for our church-family.
- Submitting to the elders in their teaching; discipleship and—if necessary—discipline through the faithful preaching and teaching of the gospel.
- Daily seeking the Lord’s help to enable us to carry out all the duties and responsibilities of Christians, including the giving of our time, talents and money to support the various ministries of the church; and providing encouragement to those missionaries and church-workers with whom we are associated.
- Making the meetings of the church our first priority, especially for the services of public worship and preaching; the meetings for prayer; and for business meetings (treating matters discussed at members meetings in strict confidence).
- Loving all the children of God and showing this love in deeds of practical kindness.
- Reminding ourselves regularly that what each of us does affects everyone else.
- Being ready to witness in any way we can to people who do not yet know Jesus as Saviour and Lord.
“We recognise that these commitments cannot be undertaken in our own strength but rather only as we endeavour to trust our mighty Triune God for His grace and help.”
- For Alex Young’s funeral on the 11th, the whole service will take place at Alfred Place (and it will be live-streamed), with the cremation taking place privately at a later date. St John has requested that bright colours be worn for the funeral, and for ideas, some may want to wear something pink, as that was Alex’s favourite colour.
- Rhodri is at the AECW Committee on the morning of the 14th of October, the meeting is taking place on Zoom.
- The special Good News Service all about Harvest on the 25th. We will be singing Harvest hymns, we will pray, and read the Bible with Harvest in mind, there may also be a testimony, and we will listen to a sermon all about Jesus reign at the Father’s right hand. Do invite friends and neighbours. Poster here:

- Rhodri plans to attend the New Pastors’ Conference in Bryn-Y-Groes, Bala from the 20th – 22nd. (The conference is for any pastor who has been in ministry for ten years of fewer, so Rhodri does still qualify as a new pastor having been here for nine years!).
- The Pilgrim’s Progress – A Guided Tour is a course curated by Ligonier Ministries which we’re running every other Monday in the basement. Derek Thomas (who was converted in Aber, became a member at AP and served as a deacon for a short time with us in the 1970s) is the video tour-guide. We listen to him for twenty minutes or so and then we talk over some discussion questions. We aim to be done within the hour. This month:
- 13th: Foes & Friends: The Road to Interpreter’s House
- 27th: The Trek to the Palace

- Whole-Church Prayer-Meetings: 14, 28 [IMJP] | Small-Group Prayer-Meeting: 7, 21
- There are three small-groups led by each of the elders. Speak to Rhodri, Ian, or Eric if you are interested in joining one of the small-groups.
- The weekly Women’s Fellowship meets on Wednesday mornings, in AP basement at 10:30am (TBC in Sunday notices).
- Message from the Women’s Fellowship about Blythswood Shoeboxes:
Would you be able to fill a shoebox with gifts for needy families in Ukraine and Eastern Europe?
There are leaflets in the porch and bookshop with all the information.
Deadline for shoeboxes – October 31st.
See Betty if you need any help. Thank you. - Causeway continues to meet between 11 and 12:30 every Wednesday, it is a time of worship organised by the staff of the homes that grew out of Plas Lluest (the home for adults with learning disabilities set up by Alfred Place four decades ago). There is singing, reading, prayer, and sharing of the word, all geared at the Plas Lluest residents and others with additional needs. The format is usually singing until around 12, then Rhodri speaks, then there’s prayer, and then there’s tea and biscuits with an optional bring your now packed-lunch, followed by some more singing. It takes place in the Community Space in Tesco. All welcome (you don’t have to stay for the whole time).
- Message from the Women’s Fellowship about Blythswood Shoeboxes:

- The monthly Bible-Reading-Groups’ are currently on 2 Corinthians. All church-members are encouraged to read the chapters and to consider Christ as you do. Those attending the groups (Women’s Evening / Men’s Breakfast / Bible Club), do keep a note of observations and questions to share with/ask one another. The next Bible-Book-section will be Malachi.
- When able to, those manning the Book-Table go out every Saturday (weather & personnel-permitting) 11am-12:30pm; members, speak to Eric if you are interested in joining the work.
