In Joshua 3:9, Joshua says this, ‘Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God.’
Priests bring people to God, but prophets do it the other way around, they don’t bring the people to God, they bring God to the people.
We can’t let this opportunity pass us by, we’ve got to say that just as Jesus is the ultimate priest, Jesus is also the ultimate prophet who Joshua (same name) is pointing us to.
Not only does Jesus bring us to God, but he brings God to us… he’s called Immanuel, which means God with us. And this is so much the case, that it’s actually right to say that Jesus is God.
What’s more, this is how Jesus conducted himself while he was on earth. Just like Joshua says to the people, “come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God”… well, every time Jesus opened his mouth he was doing that.
Jesus’ words in Luke 4:43 sum it up…
‘I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God […] for I was sent for this purpose.’
